Every Print has the Power to Craft a Story and Rise Confidence

In the heart of Rajasthan, amidst the hum of wooden blocks and the rhythm of wood being pressed to cloth, one artisan’s journey reminds us of the true strength behind every handmade piece.

Before she ever laid hands on a printing block, this artisan was told it wasn’t her place to work.

Like many women in traditional households, expectations were set and limitations came with them. But with the support and training provided by our artisan partners, she stepped beyond those boundaries and into a craft that would not only change her life but also shift the way her family viewed her.

"Working here has increased my respect in the family,’ she shares. ‘I’ve been supporting them, and their support towards me has grown. This change inspires me to work more."

Her favourite techniques? Block and screen printing.

‘I get to see different vibrant colours,’ she says, smiling.

Yet the process is far from simple. Each screen is heavy, every alignment precise. "It takes a lot of time and energy. It requires detailing in alignment and teamwork. Even the weather matters."

She explains how summer heat melts the wax used to hold fabric in place, while monsoon moisture threatens to blur intricate designs. And still, she shows up. She creates. She perseveres.

She speaks proudly of her growth. ‘Earlier I thought I wouldn’t be able to do this work, but with the group’s support and training, I was able to do a grade of work within six months.’ For someone who had never received formal skills training before, this was a transformation.

It’s that quiet strength that drives her, not only for herself, but for the future she envisions for her three daughters.

"I now feel confident. I can support my family. I’m not any less.’ she relays. ‘It’s very important. I want to raise my daughters and make them independent."

When you hold a block-printed tote or a carefully aligned piece of cloth from Shakti.ism, you’re holding more than a product. You’re holding time. Craft. Precision. You’re holding dignity. ‘We want people to appreciate our hard work. Give more orders. It encourages us.’ she says.

To this incredible artisan; thank you. For your courage, for your contribution, and for sharing your story with such honesty and pride. We do not take your work or your words lightly. You remind us that empowerment isn’t loud; it's steady, detailed, and deeply rooted in purpose.
