Brighten your outfit on a chilly day with a gorgeous natural block-printed khadi scarf. 'Khadi' means cloth that is hand-spun and hand-woven. Mahatma Gandhi popularised khadi fabric as a symbol of nationalism, self-reliance and equality. This khadi fabric is spun from cotton. Gentle handling of the cotton and the yarn as well as the low twisted yarn allows for the incredible softness and versatility of khadi. Khadi is known as the wonder fabric of India because of it's versatility, it will keep you warm in winter and cool in summer.

All of the scarves from this collection are custom-made for Shakti.ism in Jaipur, India.

The backstory
While Anoothi creates beauty, it also brings empowerment into the lives of thousands of poor rural women and destitute children of India. Anoothi is a unique combination of two very different elements: creativity and compassion! Using microcredit and micro-enterprise, we help to support and organise poor rural women of Rajasthan, India in self-help groups. Anoothi provides training in making home decor and textiles, wearable garments and jewellery. Their creations are ethnic and traditional, and aim to preserve and promote the indigenous craft and skill of natives. Anoothi aims not only to give sustenance to poor women but the process is further extended to the next generation. 50% of the profit generated through Anoothi products is contributed to sustaining Vatsalya’s Street Children rehabilitation program and 25% is spent on health care of the Anoothi women.

By purchasing this item, you are helping to empower and provide ongoing employment income for the women who make these handmade products. The demand for Shakti.ism’s products provides these women with dignified employment, a living wage, hope and opportunities for their children. Together we can provide alternative options for disadvantaged women with the aim to lift them out of poverty and help them to become self-sustaining and independent.
